On the weekend of February 22nd, 2020, SigEp sent 10 members to attend the Carlson Leadership Academy in Dallas, TX. Our members entered different programs ranging from executive board positions they wanted to run for to a rising leaders program. While gaining leadership skills and making connections with other SigEps from around the region, they also attended an awards banquet where SigEp presented various awards for alumni, students, and chapters. Our UNK SigEp chapter received two prestigious awards at this event. The first award was the Talent Power award. This award was received for our ability of recruiting an outstanding new member class in 2018-19. This new member class had exceptional involvement with other UNK organizations. Recruiting a whopping 36 members, this new member class brought in a 3.55 GPA and set a great foundation for our future. Overall, we were presented this award for recruiting a high number of quality men.
The other award we received was the Donald C. McCleary award for outstanding membership development. We received this award for having a robust Balanced Man Program that incorporates outside experts (faculty fellows) and prepares brothers for the rest of their lives. Utilizing university resources and encouraging members to apply for leadership roles on campus has helped SigEps become balanced men. To bring back awards that indicate our high-quality recruitment and membership development is a huge accomplishment for our fraternity, especially since they are two extremely important aspects of fraternity life.
